National Park “Pirin”

In the most beautiful part of Pirin mountain, which is also a well developed tourist destination, between the regions of Predela and Todorova poljana, covering an area of 40332.4 ha is situated the National park Pirin. It was proclaimed as a National park in 1962.



The “Baiuvi Dupki-Djindjiritsa” Reserve

The “Baiuvi Dupki-Djindjiritsa” Reserve was established in 1934. The reserve has a total area of 2873 hectares. In 1977 the reserve was included in the list of Biosphere reserves to UNESCO’s program “Human and Biosphere”.



The “Iulen” Reserve

The 3156.2-hectare Reserve “Iulen” was founded on 26.08.94 through order 223 by the Ministry of Environment. The reserve is located on the territory of National Park “Pirin”. Its purpose is to preserve, without human intervention, samples of the variety of forest, sub-alpine and alpine ecosystems, established upon a silicate stone foundation, also the habitats of rare, endangered and endemic animal and plant species.



Reserve “Tisata”

Its purpose is protecting the largest natural habitat of Greek juniperus in Europe.



Reserve “Orelyak”

The reserve “Orelyak” is located in the Northern Pirin Mountain. It has been established in 1985 and has an area of 850 hectares. The purpose of the reserve is to protect the scarce for Bulgaria beech forests, which belong to the Eastern Pirin Mountain ecological type.



The “Alibotush” Natural Reserve

The “Alibotush” Reserve is established on the territory of the northern slopes of the Slavyanka Mountain for protection of the most solid black ore deposit as well as for protection of the great variety of rare plant and animal species.
